Two new disks this time; a new audio CD and a mp3 disk. The audio CD completes the set of 3 disks of steam in the UK; I already had disks for Scotland and Wales so I've now added one for England. The mp3 disk is a project that I've been intending to tackle for years. It concerns the Scarborough Spa Express in the 1980s not only including recordings but you'll also find details of train performance (and there were some quite remarkable runs) on the disk along with illustrated, comprehensive notes. 12 hours of recordings for just £5 (including UK postage) must be a bargain. Full details below. Watch this space for details of more new disks. |

In England |
The 24 recordings on this CD will take you on an 80 minute steam hauled tour round England. Featuring 25 different locomotives in locations as far apart as Cornwall and County Durham. |
In
Scotland |
These 26 recordings were made between
1984 & 2006 and feature locations which range from the Southern Uplands
to the Far North Line and from the West Highland Line to the Edinburgh
'Sub'. |
In North Wales |
A steam powered tour around North Wales on standard and narrow gauge steam hauled trains including a footplate ride on a Welsh Highland Garratt! | steamsounds from the lineside 2012 |
This year's disk starts of with a real cracker, ends with another cracker, has something a little different in the middle and the rest of the 17 tracks aren't bad either even if I do say so myself! The disk has a playing time of just short of 80 minutes, features 11 different locomotives. |

On the Ffestiniog Railway |
This disk has 19 tracks all made from the lineside with a playing time of almost 80 minutes and features some of my best, previously unpublished recordings made on the railway. It includes a couple of my favourite atmospheric recordings including a 17 minute lineside track. | InWest Somerset |
The 31 tracks on this CD featuring 15 different locos working hard recorded both from the lineside and on-train will give you a real taste of this delightful railway. | In
the Severn Valley |
Many would describe the Severn Valley
Railway as one of the premier preserved railways in the UK and hopefully these 27 recordings will give the listener a taste of just what makes the railway special. |
In
the Worth Valley |
Here are 22 tracks made from the lineside, on-train and on the footplate
on this steeply graded line. |
|||
On
the North Yorkshire Moors |
My most popular CD! 17 recordings of 13 hard working locos heard both from the lineside and on train on the steep gradients that are a feature of this railway. There's even a train in a thunderstorm! |
On the North Yorkshire Moors again |
The NYMR has provided me with some of my most atmospheric tracks so, since producing the last CD of recordings from this line back in 2008, as I've made a few more recordings that I've been well pleased with, I thought it was about time for another disk of tracks from the railway. |
At North Yorkshire Moors Steam Galas |
Although the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is entertaining at any time, for an enthusiast, that entertainment is improved considerably at a Steam Gala. With a playing time of almost 80 minutes, the 22 tracks feature 30 locomotives; there's something to appeal to everyone here. |
Recordings from my North Yorkshire Moors Railway audio CDs are also available on an mp3 disk |

The steamsounds
riding behind steam series
|
||||||||||
BR Standards |
Having already produced disks in this series of locos from each of the Big Four pre-nationalisation railway companies I thought it was time to cover the locomotives produced by British Railways. On this disk are 11 recordings of 9 different locomotives all but one recorded on the main line. |
Flying Scotsman |
Ask almost anyone to name a steam loco and we all know what the likely answer will be! Flying Scotsman has been in the public eye almost from when it was built initial thanks to it becoming the first steam locomotive to be be officially timed at 100 mph. While the 7 tracks don't include any really high speed running, there's plenty of noise! |
The A4s |
Gresleys A4s have been popular with enthusiasts since they were built and they could make plenty of noise as the tracks on this disk will illustrate. Among the 10 tracks 3 A4s are featured including the record breaking Mallard. We have a complete climb on the S&C and a a couple of recordings on the ECML. |
Bullied Pacifics |
Bulleid's Merchant Navy, West Country & Battle of Britain Pacifics were the last steam locos in the UK to regularly run at speeds approaching and sometimes exceeding 100 mph. While I can't promise a recording made at that speed, you will find some high speed running among the 8 tracks on this disk. |

6201
Princess Elizabeth |
I've had many runs on the main line behind 'Lizzie' and have rarely been disappointed either by the loco's performance or the noise. The seven tracks on this CD are some of my best recordings of this iconic loco. | 46229
Duchess of Hamilton |
Back in the 1980s and early 90s there was one loco that, given the right conditions, could almost be guaranteed to produce outstanding performances every time it ventured out on the main line. This CD will give you some idea of just how good it was! | Black
Fives |
Since I first started making 'Riding behind steam' series I've had a few requests, the most common one being for Black Fives. Anyway, I've done it at last and these 9 recordings are some of my best so if like me, you like Black Fives, this is the disk for you! | Stanier's
8F |
So far, two 8Fs have proved themselves
well capable of some excellent work on the main line. The seven tracks on this CD will demonstrate that, not only do they perform well but the also sound well too! |
|||
Jubilees |
It has to be said, the Jubilee Class was not one of Stanier's most successful designs but later modifications improved them & they proved capable of producing some good performances and some rather fine sounds as the nine tracks on this CD will demonstrate. | GWR
steamCastles & Kings |
This CD contains 9 tracks with a playing time of almost 80 minutes. All the tracks were recorded on-train riding behind GWR Castles and Kings on ex Great Western routes from the Welsh Marches to the South Devon banks. | GWR
steamHalls & Manors |
Here are some of my best examples of on-train recordings made while
riding behind these locos. |
1
in 49! |
One of my regular supporters who enjoys on-train recordings wanted something with lots of noise and as the 1 in 49 gradient between Grosmont and Goathland can always be guaranteed to produce plenty, the choice was easy! | |||
On
the Settle to Carlisle Line |
Recordings on what many consider to
be the premiere route in Britain for experiencing loco performance. The highlight must be the last two tracks which are of complete climbs from Settle Jc. to Blea Moor and from Appleby to Ais Gill. Both remarkable runs and both with the same driver. |
