steamsounds from the lineside
steamsounds Riding behind steam

This is a collection of 8 disks covering a selection of my recordings made at the lineside between the years 1978 & 2009.
There are recordings of many memorable runs among the 180+ tracks and each disk has a playing time of almost 80 minutes.
The disks are available individually or you can buy the complete set at a discount.

There are four disks available covering some of my best on-train recordings of Great Western locos as as well as a disk of some excellent runs on the Settle to Carlisle line. The latest addition is a disk of some very noisy climbs on the NYMR. Each disk has a playing time of almost 80 minutes and includes some longer on-train sequences, the S&C disk has complete recordings of the climbs to Blea Moor and Ais Gill.

steamsounds in Scotland steamsounds in North Wales

These 26 recordings were made between 1984 & 2006 and feature locations which range from the Southern Uplands to the Far North Line and from the West Highland Line to the Edinburgh 'Sub'.
With a playing time of almost 80 minutes this CD includes such gems as Maude on the West Highland line, Princess Elizabeth climbing Beattock, 44871 climbing to Druimuachdar and my favourite Black 5 being worked in full regulator and full forward gear on the climb to the County March Summit!

A steam powered tour around North Wales including standard gauge steam on the Cambrian Coast and North Wales Coast lines, trains on Talerddig and the Conway Valley.
The narrow gauge isn't forgotten with visits to the Vale of Rheidol, Welshpool & Llanfair, Talyllyn, Ffestiniog, Snowdon Mountain and Welsh Highland Railways.
There are both on-train and lineside recordings and among the 26 tracks, there is even a footplate ride on a Welsh Highland Garratt!

steamsounds in the Worth Valley   steamsounds on the North Yorkshire Moors

Here are 22 tracks playing for almost 80 minutes made from the lineside, on-train and on the footplate on this steeply graded line.
Fifteen different locomotives appear including the 1874 built Bellerophen , 34092 City of Wells, L&Y 0-6-0 957, which starred in the film of The Railway Children and the latest loco to appear on the line, WD 90733.
Also included is a recording of a complete journey from Keighley to Oxenhope with 43924. Even better, our ride is on the footplate!

There are many who would name the North Yorkshire Moors Railway as there favourite and these 17 recordings with a playing time of almost 80 minutes may give an idea of why!
While you can't see the excellent scenery you can certainly hear the noise as 13 hard working locos are heard both from the lineside and on train on the steep gradients that are a feature of this railway.
Highlights are a fast & noisy climb to Goathland with Dame Vera Lynn, an atmospheric recording of trains crossing at Levisham and a train on the 1 in 49 in a thunderstorm!

steamsounds in West Somerset   steamsounds in the Severn Valley

In my very humble opinion the West Somerset Railway is something really special. Now, if you were to ask me just what makes it special I'd be a little stuck to explain and would probably duck the question tell you to go and see for yourself!
I suppose it's a combination of the almost timeless nature of line itself, the scenery and while you can't see the scenery in a sound recording, I'd like to think that the 31 tracks on this CD and the notes that go with them will give you a taste of what the railway is like.
With a playing time of almost 80 minutes, featuring 15 different locos working hard recorded both from the lineside and on-train there should be something for everyone here.

Many would describe the Severn Valley Railway as one of the premier preserved railways in the UK and I would be more than happy to agree.
Without a doubt, the railway has a fine and varied selection of motive power and the passenger rolling stock, including many pre-nationalisation examples, is second to none. Add some very atmospheric stations, pleasant scenery and you can easily see why the line is so popular.
Hopefully, these 27 recordings with a playing time of almost 80 minutes will give the listener a taste of just what makes the railway special.

(Your email address will only be used to answer your query. I will not use it for any other purpose and it will not be passed on by me to any third parties.)

I always reply to Enquiries!

However...

If you don't get a reply that may be because emails from me to you are being blocked somewhere.
This problem seems to affect certain ISPs and email providers more than others. Hotmail, Googlemail and AOL seem particularly prone and worse still, don't bounce blocked messages so, as far as I know, my message has been delivered.
So, if you don't get a reply within a few days, please contact me again and tell me. I can try another email server which usually gets through. There's a bit more about this here.
